Biography
Sandy Howarth is a London-based artist who works in oil on canvas. She was born in Sri Lanka and did a foundation year in Art & Design at Derby Lonsdale College, a diploma year at the Inchbald School of Design and a two-year AAS Degree in the Decorative Arts at Parsons School of Design, New York.
When her first born was diagnosed with autism, she gave up her career as an interior designer in Dubai. Having developed her own teaching strategies to help her son, she successfully challenged the Local Authority for the inadequacies to provide for her son’s educational needs. She published her first book “No Matter What” in 2009.
Her work incorporates colour, fluidity, structure, calmness, mystery and playfulness. She currently has three collections:
Silence Speaks (55 paintings) conveys her journey with her son. The story is told in art and poetic verse with the corresponding book being published in September 2026.
Life & Recovery (60 paintings) created after her son moved into care
Impressions & Portals to Freedom (30 paintings and continuing to work on -current collection)
Her work has evolved from contemplative art to cubist forms, to finding meaning to impressions of nature. There is a sense of organic purity to her work as she teaches herself different skills along the way. She is never satisfied staying stuck in one style. Her work is an ever-unfolding story through constant questions and answers.
